Meetings

    The WENOCA meetings are usually held at the Unitarian Church, One Edwin Place, (at the corner of Charlotte and Edwin Streets) in Asheville. The meetings start with a half hour social gathering from 7:00 p.m. At 7:30 there is a brief period of business and announcement followed by a presentation. The presentations are usually by guest speakers who address issues that are of concern to the WENOCA Group. The topics for future meetings are listed below.


 

Thursday, April 24, 2008 - Social 7 pm - Program 7:30 pm
Steep Slope Development: Committee Findings
Presenters: Bill Eaker and Linda Giltz
of the Land-of-Sky Regional Council

    Bill and Linda will present the findings and strategies developed by the Council's Mountain Ridge and Steep Slope Protection Advisory Committee. The Committee met for over a year with experts on the economic, public safety and environmental issues surrounding development on steep slopes and mountain ridges and also received input from citizens across WNC. The final report should be available at www.landofsky.org by this meeting date.

Sustainable Transportation: A Future Worth Creating<
Presener: Dave Erb, Automotive Engineer

Dave will explore some of the emissions and efficiency considerations which must be addressed in the creation of any sustainable transportation system. Vehicle development, auto industry culture, politics both national and international, social justice, and numerous other environmental, societal, and technological factors will be discussed. Dave will advocate a particular vision of a sustainable transportation future, with plenty of time for audience discussion and Q&A.
    Automotive engineer Dave Erb's first hybrid electric vehicle project was in 1986. A former university professor and test and development engineer in the truck and bus industry, Dave has been a freelance consultant since 1998. His consulting practice focuses on electric and hybrid electric vehicle design, with a growing sideline in renewable energy installations. He has also developed vehicles utilizing gasoline, diesel, biodiesel, alcohol, and natural gas powertrains.
