Greensboro Advisory
Group on the Environment Appointed |
 |
| |
|
On May 7th Mayor Johnson appointed, and City Council
approved, the members of a newly formed Advisory
Group on the Environment! The Group’s mission will be
in the areas of bringing forth initiatives for reducing pollution,
conserving resources, improving energy efficiency,
and moving towards a more sustainable local
economy.
The group’s co-chairs are Bob Powell and Joel Landau.
Its members are primarily people who have been active
in local sustainability efforts. Our thanks go to Mayor
Johnson for initiating the idea and moving forward with
it. Steve McCollum was also instrumental in bringing
the idea to fruition. One of the hopes for this group is
that it will be a focal point for coordinating and publicizing
the various sustainability efforts now underway
around the City.
The Committee members are:
Bob Powell and Joel Landau as Co-Chairs.
District 1: Art Davis and Maurice Allen
District 2: Debbie Leiner and Joe Venable
District 3: Carolyn Allen and Eric Hoekstra
District 4: Tom Clary and Kim Yarbray
District 5: Tom Duckwall
Marlene Sanford as a representative of TREBIC.
Someone to be appointed by the Chamber of Commerce.
Maybe someone from the Greensboro Merchants Association.
About half of the Advisory Group are Sierra Club members.

Red Cross First Aid Class |
 |
| |
|
Our Group is considering hosting a Red Cross first aid class if there is sufficient interest. The class will deal with emergency response and basic first aid. These are skills which ideally everyone should learn, especially if you have kids or participate in outdoor or fitness activities. It is important to develop these basic skills before an emergency arises. There is also a wilderness skills version available for those of you that hike, bicycle, backpack or canoe/kayak in the backcountry. If you are interested please contact me for more information at: twoodswalker@triad.rr.com or call 580-0510.
