Three Top Mountain Birding Walk

When:

Sunday, May 04, 2008

Details:

We are lucky to have nationally known biologist  Merrel Lynch from the Nature Conservancy to guide us and help identify the sightings and calls of birds on the easy to moderate walk. The high-elevation hardwood forests on the mountain provide ideal nesting habitat for many neotropical migratory bird species such as black-throated green warbler, veery, rose-breasted grosbeak, scarlet tanager, and blue-headed vireo. During this field trip  we may hear the distinctive drumming of ruffed grouse or the sounds/calls of other birds that are endangered or not seen in many areas of the southeast. Group size limited, no pets allowed.

To participate: (1) Fitness and experience to cover the distances, proper gear.  (2) Other terms and conditions at the top of the main NC Chapter Outings page for more details- (www.nc.sierraclub.org/outings).  Leader pre-approval plus a $20 non-refundable deposit/fee required to help cover an honorarium and fee to the Nature Conservancy (any remaining funds will be applied toward future PPG leader training).
