Contact the leader

Details:

Most of this trip will be within the Ellicott Rock Wilderness area.  We will leave our vehicles in the Walhalla Fish Hatchery lot off SC 107.  After a self-guided tour of the hatchery, we will pack a maximum of 2.5 miles along the East Fork Trail to the river, and may stop short of the river if we find a good campsite.  Friday p.m. we will dayhike south along the river to Spoonauger Falls.

Saturday we have two choices of a loop-hike depending on experience and fitness of the group. (1) Up the river to Ellicott Rock, and then east on Fork Mt Trail and back to base camp (10.0).  (2) Up the river to Ellicott Rock, back down the river to Spoonauger Falls, and then east on Foothills Trail and back to base camp (8.0).  Sunday we return home.  All routes are described as “easy” in Hiking SC, Clark & Dantzler, except Fork Mt Tl described as moderate.

To participate: (1) Fitness and experience to cover the distances, proper gear.  (2) Other terms and conditions at the top of the main NC Chapter Outings page for more details. (www.nc.sierraclub.org/outings).  Group size limited.  Leader pre-approval plus $25 refundable at the trailhead deposit required.
