RALEIGH -- The Capital Group Sierra Club wants the City Council to deny a request to rezone Kidd's Hill to allow for a massive project combining shops, restaurants, offices and condominiums.

The council will consider the project today. The city's Planning Commission last week recommended approval of the project.

The project would be next to Crabtree Valley Mall. City planners raised concerns about the project, which includes massive grading and the razing of many trees. They said the project didn't meet the intent of a city land-use guide crafted for the area.

The project's developers have made changes to address some concerns.

The Capital Group Sierra Club says that the project could increase stormwater, flooding and water quality problems in the Crabtree Valley Mall area. It also says the project will degrade the natural features of the valley and contribute to traffic congestion in the area.
